This workshop will give the learners an introduction to car safety and maintenance
This workshop is focused on teenage students who are due to start or have already started driving.
They will learn how to look after the most important components in the car but will be reminded many times throughout the course that, ultimately, the driver and their passengers are the most important components in the car. They will also be reminded several times of the dangers of using their mobile phone while driving, driving with excessive speed, drink and drug driving and not wearing their seat belt.

There will be a lot of emphasis on tyre choice based on the EU labelling system in place since 2012.
There will be a lot of emphasis on tyre maintenance including inflating tyres to correct pressure to improve handling performance and reduce fuel consumption.
The learners will be shown how to visually inspect a tyre for wear and damage.
The learners will learn how to jack a car safely and change a wheel.
The learners will learn the correct way to jump start a car using jump leads and how to start a car on the run.
The learners will learn how to open the bonnet and check for engine oil, coolant and screen wash.
The learners will learn about safety features including seatbelt pre-tensioners, airbags and anti-lock brake systems.
The learners will learn about suspension components including shock absorbers and springs.
The learners will learn about brake discs and pads and of the importance of visually inspecting them regularly and having them replaced when required.
There will be examples of tyres, brake discs and pads, shock absorbers, coil springs, airbags and various other components for the learners to examine and will be given plenty opportunity to ask questions about them.
